This little Indigo dye kit is a perfect beginner- friendly kit and has all the essentials to create your own fabulous indigo vat.. This ancient recipe uses ferrous sulphate, and can give a range of deep blue shades with only a few dips. An iron Vat is also a 1-2-3 vat, but the ingredients are in a different order than the fructose vat
1 part indigo
2 parts iron
3 parts calcium hydroxide ( lime)
The iron Vat is a cold vat that is great for cellulose and some silks; however, it is not recommended for wool because of the iron.
The Ferrous Vat gives a beautiful dark indigo, especially after repeated dips.
The kit contains: (to make a 5 gallon vat)
-Natural indigo (Indigofera Tinctoria) ( 50g)
-Ferrous sulphate (100g)
-Calcium hydroxide (150g)
